Participating in the Missouri CRCL Project

We are thrilled to offer $17.5 million in incentive payments to farmers to adopt conservation-smart practices in Missouri! The Missouri CRCL Project is funded by the USDA Advancing Markets for Producers (AMP) initiative.

The Missouri CRCL Project is led by the Center for Regenerative Agriculture at the University of Missouri, in collaboration with 14 partners from across the state. This joint effort will increase access to technical assistance and resources to help farmers adopt conservation practices.

Please carefully review the expectations for participating in the Missouri CRCL Project.

Confirming practice implementation

Each incentive payment program may have specific requirements for confirming that the practice was implemented. See the sub-page for your incentive payment program of interest for specific guidelines.

Generally, once you have implemented the conservation-smart practice, we will ask you to provide the following prior to issuing your payment:

  • Upload a photograph of the practice implemented in the field OR a receipt of the materials purchased to implement the practice (for a list of materials that are appropriate for each practice can be found on each incentive payment program website) through your FarmRaise application account.
  • Complete additional reporting information required by USDA. See below “Reporting information” to see what type of reporting information will be requested.
  • A subset of all participants may also be asked to have soil samples taken on their field.
  • A subset of all participants may be visited by a team member to verify the practice is implemented.

Reporting information

In order to comply the AMP requirements, participants who are approved to receive a payment through any of our incentive payment programs will need to provide additional information about their farm and enrolled fields.

This includes:

  • Farm and field information (size, commodities produced, yield, irrigation practices)
  • Use of conservation-smart practices (past and present)
  • Receipt of technical assistance/training and other support to implement conservation-smart practices
  • Marketing information about the commodity produced using conservation-smart practice (volume produced, volume sold, costs to implement practice)

As of May 2025, this is our understanding of what USDA’s expectations are for the Advancing Markets for Producers (AMP) initiative. Answers are subject to change.

Receiving payment

Once you have completed the reporting steps, the University of Missouri will issue you a payment.

Other things to know

  • Each year, you may receive up to $10,000 in incentive payments. Although the prior $20,000 lifetime cap has been lifted, any producers interested in re-enrolling in the program should consider how they can further improve their cover crop use or management beyond what has been done in previous years.
  • Policies may change over the course of this 5-year project. We are currently waiting for a Frequently Asked Questions page from the USDA that addresses recent changes.
