Precison agriculture, renewable energy, and agriculture systems technology

Leon Schumacher, PhD is a Professor of Agricultural Systems Technology (AST), the AST Program Coordinator, and a Fellow of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers.  His research explores the potential for digital systems to enhance the sustainability of farms and food processing facilities.  Specifically, he looks at how digital systems can contribute to smart farms, and how the internet of things (IoT), in addition to precision agriculture and automated farming systems, can catalyze adoption of these technologies.  He also focuses on energy conservation and the potential for using alternative fuels for diesel engines, including biodiesel, biomass, and ethanol.
